It gives me great pleasure and personal satisfaction that the British Business Group in Lao PDR has finally become a reality.
Now we can move forward with our objectives to support Lao companies wishing to do business in the UK, and assist UK government and private-sector investment projects in Lao PDR.
Progress since BBGL was awarded its license in February 2018 has been steady, yet swift. Of course, we are still young and growing, so please be tolerant as the Executive and Advisory Boards work hard to put our future plans into place.
To-date, BBGL has hosted a business summit in Vientiane, held regular networking events, and supported meet-and-greet functions, and fully expects to sign working agreements as MOUs with associated chambers in Lao PDR.
The subject of Communications is high on the BBGL agenda as it is imperative that British businessmen and businesses working overseas know that Lao PDR is open for business and that they should consider investing in Lao PDR. The aim of BBGL is to help them to carry their message beyond the establishment of the companies. To this end BBGL publishes a newsletter, currently quarterly, which provides information to all members about past and future events and helpful news and facts related to doing business in Lao PDR.
To help achieve our communications goals, BBGL is also in the process of launching a website to connect Lao PDR businesses to the world. Please become familiar with the BBGL website. It is open to all who wish to develop business links between the Lao PDR and the United Kingdom.
BBGL appreciates the support of those who have already become sponsors and members, and seeks to expand both its sponsorship and membership. Both companies and individuals, British passport holders or not, can register as members or associate members and receive benefits such as invitations to a myriad of regular networking functions and social events, and the newsletter to keep you abreast of what is happening in the BBGL.
In conclusion, I would like to extend my appreciation to my fellow Board members, our Executive Director and the assistance of the British Embassy in Vientiane. A very special thankyou goes to you, the BBGL members, whose involvement was critical in establishing the group we have established already.
