Actions for the Environment Event – June 2023

On June 1st 2023, the BBGL co-hosted an exclusive event for our members and sponsors with the British Embassy in Vientiane to promote the work of three organisations doing some great work in the areas of environmental protection and awareness raising. During the event, we were lucky to learn and be inspired by some very passionate people from these three organisations:

Econox Laos who have developed the EcoNewsLaos platform n the topic of environment. They believe that knowledge is the best weapon to fight against the environmental crisis, and aim to raise awareness and provide knowledge among Lao citizens about environmental issues and solutions in Laos and from around the globe by young and dynamic journalists. The second organisation was the impressive Zero Waste Laos who have really taken off in Laos in the last couple of years, under the directorship of Souksaveuy Keotiamchanh. Zero Waste Laos was initially established in 2019 as a volunteering group for promoting sustainable waste management through awareness campaigns via social media platforms in Vientiane. They are recognized as a youth-led organization on environmental issues and widely collaborate with development partners, INGOs, NGOs, government, and the private sector. Zero Waste Laos assists many parts of the country to advance their environment and sustainable development goals through the provision of capacity-building, knowledge sharing, policy advice, and research in four thematic areas: Waste Management, Climate Change, Sustainability, Youth Development and gender. Last but not least was the presentation from Idsara Wild – a new organization established in March 2023 aiming to enhance wildlife conservation, with a particular focus on elephants.
